Fire crews worked to put out a brush fire near the Neal Smith Trail that reignited Sunday afternoon.
Des Moines Fire Captain David Leever said crews were on scene for four hours. They worked to put out the same brush fire on Saturday for six hours. Leever said they do not know what started the fire.
But he said the dry weather was definitely a contributing factor. He said people should be extra mindful when it's this dry.
"Be careful discarding hot items, hot embers, cigarettes, fireworks coming up in the summertime," Leever said.
The National Weather Service said the dryness is due to the state's ongoing drought. The wind and warmer air are also making things more susceptible to catch on fire.
"That's why we have this grass fire risk in those times of year," Andrew Ansorge, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said.
