The Illini Union was evacuated Thursday morning after a fire in the basement. The fire chief says it happened in Einstein Bros. Bagels. Crews got to scene around 6:30 am. The chief says there is a lot of water damage in the area, but couldn't comment on fire damage. Crews are currently wrapping up the scene, but they expect the basment to be closed for at least the majority of the day. The opening manager at Einstein's says he saw a lot of smoke in the basement. The rest of the Union is open, but the basement is closed.
