After two recent fires that occurred within a week of each other, Galesburg fire officials are warning area residents about dehumidifier recalls. Galesburg Fire Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal Randy Hovind said approximately 3.4 million dehumidifiers sold under the Midea brand alone have been subject to recalls going back to 2002. Neither of the two recent Galesburg fires resulted in injuries, but they both had humidifiers as the point of origin. “I would definitely say it was an eye-opener and kind of made us wonder or maybe think that we were lucky that we didn’t have more fires with dehumidifiers, because we’ve only had the two,” Hovind said last week. Residents “can look on your dehumidifier and find the 1-800-SERVICE number. Companies are really good about having that information ready for you ... just have your part and serial number ready to go,” Hovind said.
