At least five people, including four police officers, have been taken to local hospitals after a water rescue on the Des Plaines River in suburban Schiller Park. According to the Schiller Park Fire Department, a person was reported to be in the water around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday evening. Schiller Park police officers arrived on the scene and saw a woman in distress near the water, and when they tried to rescue her, they broke through the ice and fell into the water themselves. Schiller Park firefighters donned water rescue suits and were able to rescue all four officers and the woman from the frigid water, and all five people were taken to area hospitals. Their condition is unknown, and their identities have not yet been made public. The Schiller Park Fire Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and will provide further updates at a later time.
