No one hurt in furnace fire at Champaign foundry

Firefighters quickly put out a blaze Friday at the Wirco foundry in west Champaign. Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Smith said the call from the plant at 1700 W. Washington St. came in around 1:20 p.m. He said the fire started when molten steel came in contact with some wood and plastic materials. Smith called the fire damage minimal.
