There was a vacant house fire in the city early Tuesday.
Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins, in a news release, said firefighters responded to Lake and Chestnut streets at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday for a call of heavy smoke and potential house fire.
Engine 52 from Brooks Street Station responded three minutes later and “found heavy fire coming from two sides of what appeared to be an abandoned home at 188 Lake St.,” the news release said.
There were no occupants found in the 1,200-square foot, two-story residence. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes and the home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage, Simkins said.
“There has been no utilities on at this residence for several years,” the news release said. There were no injuries.
Galesburg Fire investigators are looking into the blaze. Five off-duty firefighters were recalled to man the reserve engine at Central Station while the fire occurred, Simkins said.
