recent rating change from a professional organization that evaluates fire departments placed the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District among the top 6 percent of departments in Illinois, according to fire district Chief Tom Krueger.
The district learned in March it earned the second highest rating possible from the Insurance Services Organization – which grades fire departments throughout the United States – based on an inspection last year. Krueger told the Lincolnshire trustees about the rating improvement at the April 22 Village Board meeting.
Krueger said the department was last rated in 2012 when it received a 4 on a scale of 1 and 10, with 1 being the best possible and 10 the poorest. Its score of 89.5 out of a possible 105.5 points put the top rating sixth tenths of a point away.
In the last seven years, Krueger said the ability to install more hydrants in Riverwoods, improve public education about safety measures people can take, enhanced dispatch services and increased training all contributed to the new rating.
