There were no injuries after a Saturday morning fire rescue in Streator. At 7:58 a.m., firefighters were called to a structure fire at the apartment complex at 404 Richards St. Streator police officers arrived to find a family desperately trying to escape from a second-story window, according to a press release from Streator Fire Department. A mother dropped her child to the officers, then the adults jumped to safety, as officers braved the smoke. In total, five people were evacuated safely. All of them were checked by paramedics. Fire was blocking all exits of the apartment. Mike Harlan Sr. lives two buildings away and watched the situation from start to finish. He spotted black smoke from the building when looking out his window, and by the time he grabbed his sweater and made it outside, he recalled the side of the building being engulfed in flames.
