PHOTOS: A family is without a home Thursday morning after a fire on 611 North 9th Street in Keokuk. Keokuk Assistant Fire Chief Pat McNally said they arrived on scene around 1:30 a.m. After seeing the home fully engulfed, all fire crews were called in because of heavy flames and smoke. Fire crews stayed on the scene to battle hot spots to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes. Crews wrapped up work around 6:15 a.m. There was a family with three children inside. Fire officials say everyone made it out safely but a family dog did not survive the fire. No injuries were reported. The home has significant smoke and fire damage to the siding and windows. McNally added the home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
