The Harvard Firefighters’ Association is organizing a poker run and golf outing Sept. 29 to benefit Phil Jacobs, a 30-year veteran of the Harvard Fire Protection District who recently was diagnosed with cancer. Lt. Kara Bough said Jacobs was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma and is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment and stem cell transplants. Proceeds from the fundraiser, Fight for Phil, will go toward Jacobs and his family. “I’m super excited about the people who pitched in, and we’re so grateful we’re able to do something for [Jacobs] and his family,” Bough said. Registration for the bike ride will be between 9 and 11 a.m. at the Harvard Fire Protection District, 502 S. Eastman St. Bikes will leave the station at 11 a.m. The event will cost $20 a bike, plus $10 for an additional rider.
