Starting Thursday you will see holiday wreaths adorn the City of Peoria’s 12 fire stations. This is part of the fire departments “Keep the Wreath Red” campaign. Wreaths at all city fire stations are illuminated with red bulbs and firefighters will replace a red bulb with a white one for each structure fire in a home or commercial building. During the 2021 campaign there were 15 fire related incidents that left four people hurt and an estimated $781,200 in damages. The “Keep the Wreath Red” progrma was adopted by Illinois Fire Chiefs in 1980 as a way to alert the community of fires caused by holiday decorations. The city of Peoria started the program in 1995. The campaign starts Thursday, December 1st and ends New Year’s Day.
