VIDEO: Shots rang out in the halls of Dunlap High School on Friday but it was just for training first responders in the event there was an active shooter.
The training has been in the works for months, and it hasn’t been done since the early 2000s. However, it comes just days after a Dunlap Valley Middle School student brought a loaded gun to school to show his friends.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Dunlap Fire Department, Advanced Medical Transport and several surrounding agencies got the chance to practice what a real active shooter situation would be like, without it being real.
Police entered the building and located and eliminated the threat, all while being “shot” at to learn from their mistakes. The training allowed police to make mistakes and learn from them.
