Saturday morning around 325 a.m. the Elkhart Fire Department was dispatched to the 1020 block of W. Garfield Ave. for a possible house fire. When EFD arrived to the scene, they reported heavy fire coming from the basement of the house. EFD also reported that the fire had extended to a neighbor’s house and had two active house fires simultaneously. Witnesses say that that the resident of the 1020 block of W. Garfield Ave. was out of town and the residents of the neighbor’s house were able to self-evacuate from their home. EFD worked quickly to control and put out both house fires. No civilian or firefighters were injured. There has been given no cause as to how the fire began at this time.
