The Evansville Fire Department is looking to increase diversity among its ranks. EPD is now accepting applications and is encouraging minorities who are looking for a career in public service. Applicants should be prepared for the challenges of 24-hour shifts, medical runs, hazardous materials and fighting fires. Though very rewarding, it’s also a physical demanding job and applicants should be in good physical health. Qualified candidates who successfully complete the process are put on an eligibility list that’s valid for two years. "I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. This is what I love to do. Been doing it 30 years and still love coming to work."
