As fire protection needs and the size of equipment grew over the years, the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department fire station did not. “The number of trucks we have is enough,” Fire Chief Eric Lower said. “Our engine is almost 35 years old and they don’t make trucks that short anymore, so as everything got bigger, we wanted to make sure we had room length-wise and height-wise so when we got new trucks they would be able to fit.” That issue is being rectified. A new station is under construction. The town of Glenwood received $500,000 from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the town and fire department put in additional money to complete the project, Lower said.
