Firefighters from 10 local departments contended with frigid weather Wednesday morning when battling a house fire in Harrison Township southwest of Gaston.
The blaze, reported to dispatchers at 5:32 a.m., left the house –in the 10600 block of West Ind. 28 – a total loss, according to Andrew Storie, assistant chief of the Gaston Volunteer Fire Department.
Storie said the second floor of the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The blaze was believed to be electrical in nature.
The occupants of the house woke up and smelled smoke, Storie said. They were able to escape without injury.
The temperature was about six degrees as firefighters battled the blaze, the assistant chief said.
