PHOTO: Columbus firefighters were sent to the 2100 block of 13th Street at about 10 a.m. Friday about a fire in an attached garage in the back of a home. Upon arrival, Columbus police told firefighters all occupants were out of the single-story 700-foot home. Firefighters went into the home and moved toward the garage, where they found flames and smoke, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman. After firefighters put out the fire, they searched for remaining hot spots in the contents in the garage. They also opened the garage door to remove smoke and moved salvageable items outside. High heat and flames damaged the interior walls separating the garage from the home, Wilson said. Flames also damaged the home’s water heater, which cause a water line going to the water heater to fail and allow a free flow of water into the garage, Wilson said.
