No one was injured in a fire Wednesday night on the 11th floor of the Three Rivers Apartments north tower.
Residents reported smelling smoke or hearing alarms.
Firefighters were called around 9:30 p.m. to the north tower off Superior Street on the east edge of downtown.
Battalion Chief Todd Korn said the fire started in an apartment on the 11th floor. The cause is being investigated, he said.
Firefighters responded with two ladder trucks, he said.
Some residents were evacuated while others were told to stay on their floors, Korn said.
A couple on the 14th floor, the north floor's highest, said the floor was covered in smoke. They said they took the stairs down, not the elevator. A woman on the 10th floor said there was no smoke in her apartment, but a alarm blared for 40 minutes.
