A man was found dead Sunday in a smoldering apartment in Albany, a town in Delaware County. Albany police responded about 5 p.m. Sunday to an apartment in the 600 block of East Oak Street, where there appeared to have at some point been a fire, said Jeff Stanley, chief deputy at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. The fire was out when officers arrived, but parts of the apartment were still smoldering. They found a man inside the apartment and after attempts to render medical care, he was pronounced dead at the scene, Stanley said. The man’s death on Sunday night was under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. It was not clear when the fire started, and no other apartments were affected by the fire, Stanley said.
