An abandoned home caught fire Thursday morning near the intersection of Boots, Washington and 33rd streets in Marion. Marion Fire Department (MFD) Assistant Chief Tony Fox said his crews were called to 3307 S. Boots St. at approximately 9:56 a.m. Jan. 16. Fox said the house is abandoned. He said the fire department has responded to the residence in the past for another structure fire there. Brad Myers, MFD marshal, said the fire department was alerted of the blaze when an ambulance passing through the area saw heavy smoke and fire when rounding the corner toward the house. Fox said firefighters were able to contain and quench the fire in a little more than an hour, with most of the damage toward the rear of the residence. There were no people inside or near the burning building when firefighters arrived, Fox said.
