Patoka Fire Territory adopts new response protocol

Patoka Fire Territory trustees Monday reviewed a new set of protocol that PFT Chief Mike Pflug presented as safety precautions for responding to patients affected by COVID-19. Firefighters are first responders to most incidents, and Pflug said the protocol relies heavily on Gibson County Central Dispatch information screening 911 callers as to whether they believe they have the virus... Other gear including Tyvek suits and turnout gear are available if firefighters aren’t comfortable with gloves and masks. Pflug said the protocols for firefighters who make contact with a patient and contract COVID-19 virus during the line of duty, it will be treated as an on-duty injury and firefighters won’t be required to use sick time to recover.
