A fire that burned a vacant north-side house early Wednesday remains under investigation by Richmond Fire Department. RFD was called at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday to 318 N. 14th St. "The house was fully involved when we got there," said Battalion Chief Tim Brown. "There was fire out the south side on the first floor and the second floor." Houses to the north and the south were exposed to the fire's heat, causing evacuation of the home to the south, Brown said. The house to the north was also vacant. Brown said it took 70 minutes to extinguish the fire. He said floors and stairways inside were burned out, and that impeded firefighters. "We started off in an offensive mode, then went defensive for a while, then went back and cleaned it up," Brown said. The two-story structure remains standing, but it shows significant damage from the fire. There were no injuries.
