Bloomington again has a fully functional fire department downtown. Six weeks after flooding left its headquarters on East Fourth Street uninhabitable, the department has settled into its temporary headquarters at 226 South College Avenue. The basement and ground floor at BFD Station One sustained damage during the heavy rains on June 18-19 that flooded areas downtown and along Clear Creek south of town. The city settled on the former Bunger and Robertson property on South College a few days later as a temporary location and spent the next month and a half relocating all of its resources there, except for its ladder truck, which will be temporarily located at Station 2 on the west side. “The people of our Bloomington Fire Department were characteristically efficient and resourceful in relocating their operations after the flood,” Mayor John Hamilton said in a news release.
