A fire caused extensive damage to a home on Cherry Street Tuesday night.
Columbus firefighters were sent to 511 N. Cherry St., at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday and found flames showing from the rear of the home.
Firefighters believe that the fire may have originated near the garage at the rear of the residence before spreading to the home. As firefighters entered the front interior of the home, they encountered high heat and heavy conditions as they moved towards the area of the home involved in flames.
Two additional fire engines were dispatched to the scene, taking the total number of apparatus working the scene to six. High heat from the intense flames threatened a home at 507 N. Cherry Street, and caused siding to melt from the rear of the home.
