VIDEO: There’s a new program starting in schools to teach kids fire prevention in a fun and memorable way. At the Madison S.T.E.A.M. Academy class was in session, but the teachers weren’t normal faculty; in fact, you could say these teachers were having a ball. Kasey and Karmel are dogs, and side by side, tail by tail, they bring fire and life skills to children of all ages, as part of Koorsen Fire’s Kasey Program. “Using the dogs to teach that, I think, makes that more memorable than just having someone to stand up and talk about it; I don’t think that’s going to be memorable, but when you have the dogs become the teacher, that becomes more memorable to the kids,” said Jeff Owens, the public coordinator of the program who also trains the dogs.
