The Topeka Fire Department has confirmed that ethanol from the overturned semi tanker on I-70 at Adams has leaked into the Shunganunga creek. More agencies have been called in to assist including the National Response Center, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and Environmental Protection Agency. They say ethanol from the truck leaked through drainage systems that went into the creek. "We're working to just contain it as best we can until we can get that product offloaded. We don't believe there's any hazard to the public at this time," said Topeka Fire Marshal Mike Martin. According to the Alternative Fuels Data Center, "Ethanol is a renewable fuel made from corn and other plant materials."
