A stretch of I-70 from 1st St. to the SE Carnahan/Deer Creek Tfwy. interchange was closed for hours after an ethanol tanker truck rollover. Eastbound I-70 reopened late Friday evening while traffic was flowing again in westbound lanes early Saturday morning. Authorities say the semi and an SUV were involved in the crash, near the SE Adams/Branner St. interchange, around noon on Friday. Officials had also closed Adams St. from 10th St. to 15th St. because the tanker started leaking ethanol. The closures had extended all of the way to MacVicar Ave. for much of the afternoon. For a brief time, the Interstate was shut down all of the way to Gage Blvd. because of a second three-vehicle wreck. Two people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital, the driver of the semi as well as four people who were in the SUV. Initial reports had indicated up to five people were hurt, but KHP later said only two were taken to the hospital.
