Authorities say a woman has died after they responded to a house fire in Wichita's Delano District. Firefighters were called to the 200 block of North Elizabeth shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. The woman's husband returned home from grocery shopping to find smoke coming from the house. Wichita Fire Marshal Stuart Bevis said the man tried to get to his wife, but he only made it through the house to the back stairs. He couldn’t get upstairs to her because of the smoke. The woman who was in the home was removed and treated by EMS, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Bevis said she was in her 70s and on oxygen. The fire is under investigation. It caused about $30,000 in damage.
