The Riley County Commission agreed Thursday to allow the Riley County Fire Department to purchase a $26,000 trailer to help haul heavy equipment and vehicles. Emergency management director Pat Collins said the department purchased a small dozer to haul rented equipment or apparatuses to fight fires in the area, but it needed an apparatus to move the dozer. In the past, Collins said the department usually borrowed a trailer from the public works department, but sometimes issues like equipment already being loaded on the trailer or the trailer being across the county hindered response times.
