A co-op worker suffered critical injuries in an auger accident in Cowley County on Friday. Winfield Fire Marshal Chad Mayberry says shortly before 3:30 p.m, emergency crews were dispatched to the Valley Coop Kellogg Branch located at 16101 23rd Road. On the scene, rescue crews found an employee of the facility inside a metal grain bin with his lower leg caught in an auger. While crews worked to free the man's leg, they contacted Wesley Medical Center to request a trauma surgeon to respond to the scene for consultation. An Eagle Med helicopter transported the surgeon to the scene. Crews freed the worker from the grain bin by the time the surgeon arrived. Both the surgeon and the worker were then transported back to Wesley Medical Center. Winfield Fire/EMS, Udall Fire/EMS, the Cowley County Sheriff's Office and one Kansas Highway Patrol trooper all assisted with the effort.
