Authorities say three people were killed when a car and a box truck collided on a highway in suburban Wichita.
The accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on K-254 near Greenwich Road, northeast of Bel Aire. Trooper Chad Crittenden with the Kansas Highway Patrol said a box truck was northbound in the crossover between the westbound and eastbound lanes of 254 and collided with a westbound Ford Fusion.
Both vehicles went into a ditch and caught fire. The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the three people in the Fusion as 41-year-old Terry Wehry, 44-year-old Renata Wehry, and 68-year-old Lonnie Jesser.
Crittenden said all three died at the scene.
The truck driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. Crittenden said it appears that driver did not yield.
Eastbound traffic has reopened, and westbound traffic was being diverted at 127th Street East.
