Think firefighters only pull kittens out of trees? "Think again!" said firefighters with the Johnson County Fire District. Firefighters in Johnson County, Kansas, were called to a cat-astrophe in Edgerton late Sunday night. Crews with Fire District No. 1 were sent to an area near West 5th Street and West Edgewood Drive around 9 p.m. after someone called 911 for help getting their injured cat out of a storm drain. The firefighters accessed the drain through a manhole, but the frightened kitty moved farther down the drain and away from his rescuers. Firefighters ultimately made the decision to set a humane trap in hopes of catching the cat in the drain overnight, meanwhile the cat's owner maintained a vigil, hoping the cat would climb out on his own. The same firefighters returned Monday morning to check the trap, but it was empty, and the cat was nowhere to be found.
