VIDEO: Armed with new equipment and training, the Junction City Fire Department has started their annual fire hydrant testing. Fire hydrant testing helps the fire department know how much water each hydrant is capable of releasing.
This year the crew is not only testing the fire hydrants; they are also doing necessary maintenance on each hydrant.
Fire hydrant testing will take up to 10 weeks to test all the hydrants in the city.
Testing is only done in clear weather for the safety of the crews who trained to perform the tests.
“We have a hose that goes to what’s called a diffuser. It deflects the water to limit the possibility of causing damage to personal property. So the equipment we’re using is new updated equipment, it’s calibrated, so it gives us more accurate fire flow, that’s what the training was for.” Junction City Fire Department, Fire Chief, Terry Johnson says.
