An unoccupied house located 726 East Ninth St. was completely destroyed by a fire early Wednesday morning. The Concordia Fire Department received the call at 3:29 a.m. Concordia Fire Chief Eric Voss said the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, with flames coming out of the roof and all windows. The fire was under control in about an hour, according to Voss. There were eight firefighters on scene until about 6:30 a.m. Siding on a building behind the house was damaged by the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Even though the house was unoccupied, Voss wants to remind all residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes. The Fire Department has smoke and carbon monoxide detectors available that it will install in homes.
