A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson Tuesday morning after first responders were called to smoldering barricades in downtown Lawrence. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to the call at 1047 Massachusetts St. at 4:47 a.m. Tuesday, Division Chief of Administration Tom Fagan said in an email to the Journal-World. The address belongs to the Watkins Museum of History. The man was arrested “following the investigation of several incendiary fires involving barricade materials in the public way” in front of the building, Fagan said. It was a joint investigation between LDCFM and the Lawrence Police Department. No injuries were reported as a result of the fires. Danny Albert Goodwin, of Lawrence, was charged with arson in connection with the incident on Wednesday in Douglas County District Court, online court records show. The charging document in his case alleges that Goodwin burned a plastic snow fence belonging to Hicks Classic Concrete Inc.
