A fire that occurred late Wednesday at 1319 N. D St., in Arkansas City was caused by a wood-burning stove inside the residence. Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department Capt. Paul Hunter said Thursday that according to reports filed by the responding crew, entry to the home was made through the garage and the fire was contained to the stove. Hunter said approximately 400 gallons of water were used to extinguish the blaze. Flames shot out from the chimney of the home, across from the Ark City Middle School. Winfield firefighters responded to the call, but the fire was out before they arrived. Hunter said the crew also used a thermal imaging camera to examine the area around the stove to make sure the fire was completely out. He said most of the damage to the residence was water and smoke related.
