A late-night fire in southwest Kansas is believed to be tied to fireworks. The fire broke out in Seward County hours after the City of Liberal announced a fireworks ban. At 10:19 p.m. Monday, the Seward County government shared photos of a vegetation fire northwest of Liberal. “The fire is contained and units are working hotspots,” the government shared on Facebook. “Fire appears to be caused by fireworks.” Monday afternoon, the City of Liberal said it's banning fireworks due to the weather. “The City of Liberal and Seward County have experienced extremely dry and windy conditions throughout the entire month of June,” the release reads. “The current weather and the forecast of continued hot, dry and windy conditions through the 4th have led to this decision.” The city said the decision, though highly unlikely, may be reversed if conditions improve by the Fourth of July on Saturday.
