One person was injured in a fire Saturday in Topeka. Just after 7:30p.m., fire crews responded to the fire in a single-story residential duplex at 2000 SE Echo Ridge Circle, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison. Firefighters located one adult male who was able to escape prior to their arrival. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, associated with an electric dryer malfunction in unit 56. The estimated dollar loss – $90,000.00; of which $80,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $10,000.00 associated with contents loss. He unit did not have working smoke detectors, according to Harrison.
