Fire in central Topeka ruled intentionally set

An early-morning fire in central Topeka has been ruled intentionally set, authorities said. Topeka Fire Department crews were called around 5:45 a.m. Monday to a a report of a blaze at a two-story house at 1617 S.W. Central Park Ave. First-arriving crews found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house, officials said. Crews were able to bring the blaze under control quickly and contain it to the house where it started. Firefighters placed a fan in the open front doorway to ventilate the house of smoke. Scorch marks from the fire could be seen on the southwest side at the back of the house. No occupants were found inside the house. A resident who lives in the neighborhood told 13 NEWS the house was vacant. Fire officials said at the scene that the house didn’t have any working utilities.
