Ten families were displaced Monday evening when fire damaged an apartment building near 95th and Monrovia streets, the Lenexa Fire Department said. Fire crews were called at 6:48 p.m. to the Wilder apartments. The fire department said the fire was confined to a second-floor apartment. Fire officials said crews rescued two people from a third-floor balcony. There were no injuries. Crews also rescued two dogs and 10 cats. Authorities said 12 apartments had smoke damage. Fire crews said the 10 families were displaced from their apartments because of smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
