The Farmer’s Turnpike was closed north of Lawrence for more than an hour after a semi-truck caught fire and may need to be closed again.
The Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Office says that around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, emergency crews were called to the 1100 block of N. 1800 Rd., on the Farmer’s Turnpike, with reports of a collision.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a vehicle fire had sparked after a single-vehicle collision that involved a semitrailer. The roadway was closed in both directions as crews cleared the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office noted that the driver of the semi escaped the crash without injury.
As of 2:55 p.m., crews indicated that traffic had been allowed to flow back through the area; however, it is possible the road may need to be closed again for tow truck removal of the semi and trailer.
