PHOTOS: One firefighter was injured following a house fire in Independence on Saturday evening. The Independence Fire Department says crews responded to the report of a fire at 11th and Hickory just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire on the back of the home and detached garage with an extension into the structure and attic. The department says that crews did an aggressive interior attack on the fire utilizing 1 3/4 lines and 2 1/2 on the exterior. The fire was under control by 8 p.m. and crews cleared at 9 p.m., the department said. The home sustained extensive damage and there were no injuries to the family; however, one firefighter was injured while fighting the fire.
