VIDEO: A fire to a beef-processing plant in Liberal prompted a heavy emergency response late Wednesday night. The Liberal Police Department advised of “a large fire on the east side of National Beef” and instructed people not to attempt to drive on East 8th Street near the plant.
“Liberal Fire Department is on scene, give them space to work,” police said in a social media post.
A spokesperson for National Beef issued a statement on behalf of the organization. It said the fire happed at around 9:50 Wednesday as a trailer parked in a loading dock area caught fire and spread to other trailers, along with a loading dock area. The fire took about two hours to extinguish.
The plant was operating at the time, but it was evacuated and there were no injuries.
