Crews responded to a house fire early Thursday in west-central Topeka. The blaze was reported at 4:34 a.m. Thursday at 1131 S.W. Medford. First-arriving crews reported flames and smoke were showing from the back side of the residence. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly and were looking for hot spots around 5 a.m. Authorities said the home’s occupants were able to make it outside safely before crews arrived on the scene. There were no reports of injuries as of 5:45 a.m., as several units remained on the scene. Additional details, including the cause of the fire and an estimated dollar loss, weren’t immediately available.
