The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has released the identity of a man who was found dead in a St. Matthews garage. According to authorities, that man has been identified as 51-year-old Stanley Bottom, who lived in the 3400 block of Pflanz Avenue, near N. 34th Street. Police say Bottom was found dead in a garage in St. Matthews early Wednesday on Watford Court, near Westport Road. They were originally sent to the home on a report of a person down inside of a garage. When they arrived, they found Bottom dead inside. Police also say it looks like there is evidence that there was a fire in the garage as well. The coroner's office lists Bottom's official cause of death as, "smoke inhalation." Neighbors like Paul Bleuel say waking up to see the scene outside was quite the shock. "At 7:15 there were lots of sirens, and when I looked out, the court across the street had at least five St. Matthews police cars, several engines and EMS," Bleuel said. The Louisville Metro Arson squad had taken over the investigation as of Wednesday. As of that time, it had been classified as a death investigation, pending the outcome of the autopsy.
