A long day of fishing for smallmouth bass ended with some help from the Bowling Green Fire Department for Daniel Smithhisler and a man who did not wish to be identified Saturday evening. It was the department’s second trip to the Barren River this week, after a man was rescued Tuesday from the base of the Old Louisville Road Bridge. After about eight hours on the Barren River, making it all the way to Martinsville and back from Weldon Peete Park, Smithhisler’s boat became caught in the current and eventually stuck against the rocks near the bridge. The Bowling Green Fire Department received the call shortly before 7 p.m. and had the two men safely ashore at 8 p.m. according to BGFD spokeswoman Marlee Boenig. Neither was injured.
