VIDEO: Firefighters in Highview surprised their co-worker, who is battling cancer, with a complete home transformation Wednesday. Fire officials told WLKY News that doctors diagnosed Mike Henson with Stage 3 lung cancer this past June. The Highview Fire Department stepped in to help after learning of the diagnosis. Fire Chief Dave Goldsmith said they’ve taken Henson to all his cancer treatments and tried to help out however they could. Goldsmith explained that the department recently learned Henson's air conditioning hasn't worked properly for about four years. When crews came to his home on Cloverport Drive to install a new air-conditioning system, they noticed he could use even more help. Since Sunday, firefighters and volunteers worked to install new windows, doors, landscaping, cabinets and more. The home makeover happened while Henson was in Gatlinburg with his mother.
