Excessive heat can be dangerous and even deadly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 658 people die every year because of the heat. Stay hydrated. Paducah firefighter Lt. Ronnie Hines says drink water before, during, and after you go outside. He says you should wear loose clothing and take plenty of breaks. Dr. Nicholas Batley with Baptist Health says some of the most vulnerable people in the heat are children and the elderly. Pat Hayes owns West End Kids Academy in Paducah. After 30 years of working with kids, she knows what to look for. “Their face is going to be really red. I don’t mean just a little pink,” Hayes says. “They are probably going to start crying because they are not feeling good. They want to go in.”
