VIDEO: Firefighters are working on putting out a wildfire at Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest. Jon Kazmierski is a district ranger for the Daniel Boone National Forest. He said the wildfire started because a campfire wasn’t properly put out. “Not everyone realizes how dangerous a match, or cigarette butt, or a small campfire can be,” Kazmierski said. Now, he expects about 125 acres to burn and it could take weeks to completely put out the fire. Forest firefighters crews have come in from Tennessee, Virginia and California to help out. Kazmierski said he hopes people will listen to warnings from officials. “We’re putting people’s lives at risk, so that one careless moment while it may seem innocent it could result in somebody getting seriously hurt or worse,” he said.
