A Louisville firefighter has tested positive for COVID-19, the mayor's office announced.
The firefighter, whose last shift was on Friday, began showing symptoms of illness on Sunday, according to the news release from Mayor Greg Fischer.
He reported symptoms over the phone on Monday and, because he is a first responder, he was tested for the virus on the same day. Results came back positive Tuesday.
The individual, who was not identified in the news release, does not live in Jefferson County. He is self-isolating in his home, Fischer said.
Fischer said in a call with reporters Tuesday evening that the mayor's office would report on Wednesday the number of firefighters who are going into self-quarantine as a result of their interactions with this individual.
